Ann Ferguson

I have been inspired this last year by sewers and weavers, my neighbours and fellow artists, to bring the qualities of the cloth, the weave and the thread, into my process and practise of sculptural ceramics.

A suspended linen sling supports the soft clay slabs: gently curved, the emerging shapes reflect on the holding of life and the caring work of women.

The dry strength of paper-clay, with its capacity to frame, builds pierced structures linked by threads and holes, suggesting connection and transmission of ideas and energies. These are my works for Gather.
