Working with textiles has been part of my life from when I was very young. I also find that the closer I am to nature, the more peace there is in my life.
These passions combine in my work. I use natural fibres such as linen, cotton and silk which are often repurposed. They may be eco-dyed using local plants and earth pigments. Sometimes they are stitched or coloured with inks, crayons and acrylics. The natural world provides inspiration and there is so much to explore.
A recent course with Lorna Crane (of Fibre Arts Take Two) has encouraged me to make 3D works in the form of vessels. Castlemaine has ochre pits not far from town, so that led to the exploration of earth pigments and the way they can be used on fabric. This is just the beginning.
