Our bodies are made of blocks and membranes of all shapes, sizes, and functions. We inherit the material and patterns for these building blocks from our ancestors.

Femme Maison is a membrane of breeze blocks, assembled from remnants of my grandmother’s dresses; her skins. I was always told that my grandfather built their house, brick by brick. Here I’ve made a pattern of one such brick, in an imaginative and futile and process of re-articulating the architecture of their existence. Just as genetic material is gifted, recycled and transformed; so too are artworks.

Building as body, body as building; constantly under construction.

My body house is their house, and she is no wall flower.
